Introducing Rochelle Ellis:

Soprano Rochelle Ellis, an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, has distinguished herself in a broad repertoire that extends from Bach and Beethoven to Verdi, Barber and Gershwin. Many of Ms. Ellis’ most outstanding career successes have occurred in the concert hall, both here and abroad, where she has performed with many of the world’s leading conductors.

In addition to her operatic, recital and oratorio performances, Ms. Ellis also has been instrumental in local efforts to bring classical music to urban students and to share the African-American musical experience with wider audiences. She has developed such projects as a lecture/recital on the origins of African-American music from slavery until after the Civil War for area high school history classes, an area festival for African-American culture, and has given frequent performances of the lecture/recital “The Lady from Philadelphia,” which highlights the life and career of singer Marian Anderson.

A native of St. Louis, Ms. Ellis holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Education from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and maintains voice studios at Westminster and at her home in Trenton, NJ.
